The "My Name is Earl" motel

5 years ago I visited the motel from "My Name is Earl".

I arrived at the motel October 23, 2007 and I was stunned to find a camera crew setting up to shoot My Name Is Earl.

I drove by the motel a bunch of times and tried to sneak a few photos:

The next day I returned to find that the film crew was gone. Here are some photos I was able to take:

This first one shows the pool, which is often showcased in the show. I remember hearing on the DVD commentary track that they have to "muddy" the water in the pool with some dye so the pool looks extra dirty.

That doesn't explain the set of toilets next to the pool. I wonder if they ALWAYS have toilets by the pool. That would be rather convenient.

It is located at 8424 Sepulveda Boulevard, North Hills, Los Angeles, California.

The building with a hole in it from the opening of Miami Vice

I love the opening theme from Miami Vice! There is one thing in the title sequence that always stood out to me:

The girls in bikinis!

Oh yeah, and the building with a hole in it.

What kind of building is this? I need to know more!

I googled "miami building with hole" and quickly found the answer:
It's called The Atlantis and it is a condo complex.

You can easily see it from the street:

I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With

This 2006 Jeff Garlin film shot in several locations in Chicago.

The hot dog stand with the "pirate" is:

Budacki's Drive In
4739 North Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL

The ice cream shop where he meets Sarah Silverman's character was located at:
3731 N Clark, Chicago, IL

The ice cream shop is closed and it's now a Mexican restaurant.

The shot from the movie I really wanted to know existed was the spot where Garlin's character stopped to eat junk food multiple times in the film.

It appeared to be a quiet neighborhood where you could see the scoreboard from Wrigley Field. I wanted to see if it was a real spot of a faked location.

Sadly, I don't have a screenshot but the location does seem to exist right along this street:
